Project Breakdown

  • Stage 1: Early Winter (Hand-Painted)

This phase focuses on the subtle, atmospheric beginnings of the season. By utilizing a hand-painted approach for the entire scene, there is a distinct control over the "dusting" effect of the snow, allowing for a precise balance between the remaining autumnal colors and the emerging whites and grays. The focus here is on capturing the mood and the delicate transition of the landscape.

  • Stage 2: Deep Winter (Photo-Based)

To achieve the heavy winter version, the workflow shifts to a photo-based approach. This allows for a much higher level of textural detail and realism in the deep snow accumulation and icy surfaces. The use of photo reference ensures that the weight and physical properties of the snow feel authentic, creating a sense of height-of-season immersion.

Core Themes

  • Atmospheric Evolution: The project successfully showcases how lighting and texture can completely redefine a location’s personality.

  • Seasonal Authenticity: The transition effectively captures the weight and temperature shift as the season progresses into its most extreme state.
